Vegetarian Pizza

A touch of Indian cuisine on an Italian dish. A simple and easy to do pizza with your favourite choice of vegetables.

For Home-made Pizza Dough
(Makes 2 x 8 inch Pizzas) or (2 x 10 inch Thin Pizzas)

Ingredients (A)

50ml   

1 teaspoon

1 teaspoon
½ teaspoon

 

Ingredients (B)

1 tablespoon

150 grams

 

Warm water

Dried Yeast

Sugar

Salt

 

 

Olive/Vegetable Oil

Bread Flour

 

 

1. For the yeast mixture, mix all the Ingredients (A), together in a cup and wait for 5 minutes.

2. In a large bowl, add in the Ingredients (B) and the yeast mixture. Mix it well.

3. Then knead and punch the dough for 8-10 minutes or until the texture is smooth and elastic. If not mix it in a mixer that is fitted with a dough hook.

4. Shape it into 2 balls. And cover the dough with a wet cloth/cling film and leave it for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

 

 

Recipe For The Tomato Sauce

 

1½ tablespoons              

15 leaves                        

2 pieces                         

80 grams
200 grams                        

½ teaspoon                

1 teaspoon     

1 teaspoon                 
¾ teaspoon                     

½ teaspoon

Ghee

Curry Leaves (finely chopped)

Garlic (finely chopped)

Onions, (finely chopped)

Whole Tomatoes

Black Pepper (crush)

Chilli Powder

Curry Powder

Salt

Sugar

 

1. Add the tomatoes into the boiling water for 1 minute, then take them out and peel their skin off. Then smash them well and leave them aside.

2. Heat the ghee in a saucepan over medium heat until hot.

3. Add the curry leaves, garlic and onion & fry till fragrant.

4. Then add in the tomatoes, pepper, chilli powder, curry powder, salt and sugar & cook them till the sauce thickens. Add in salt if necessary.

5. Then place the sauce into a bowl and cool it to room temperature.

6. Use this following sauce for the topping later on. Preheat the oven to 220oC.

7. Roll out the dough into a round shape (8 inch or 10 inch) and to a required thickness on a lightly floured board.

8. Place it on a slightly greased baking tray and then add the following topping according to sequence below.

 

 

For the Topping

Tomato Sauce or Spaghetti Sauce (spread on)

Mozzarella Cheese (grated)

Button Mushroom (sliced)

Red Capsicum (sliced)

Green Capsicum (sliced)

Green Chilli (sliced)

Onion (sliced)

Mozzarella Cheese (grated right on top)

 

7. And bake it at 200ofor 15 minutes or until golden brown.

 

 

* If you feel the pizza is not done due to the oven, bake it for another few more minutes.

* If the dough is too sticky, add more flour to it and continue kneading.

* Do not add too much salt, if not the yeast enzymes will be retarded.

* Instead of fresh tomatoes, canned tomatoes can be used.
